Without Name is a 2016 Irish eco-horror film directed by Lorcan Finnegan, based on a script by Garret Shanley. Directed by Lorcan Finnegan. In reverse chronological order. Get some new ideas, movies.A collection of folk, horror and folk-horror film and TV (with a dash of sci-fi, fantasy, paranoid thriller and urban…Also without much drive or direction unfortunately. For a slow burn it really doesn’t maintain an atmosphere or mood to justify its pace, though there are certainly moments where it delivers in this aspect. Earns bonus points for lrish accents and shrooms.I would very much like to take shrooms and get lost in the woods of Ireland right now. of hallucinogens, my brain is weird enough as it is, but I did enjoy a nice Irish whiskey while watching this. Which is probably the way to go if you don't have magic polka dotted veggies on hand. Also, I'm going to repeat my frequent refrain: I'm so! The careful pacing is the slow walk into a close-up of territory at once familiar, now rendered alien.I'm the guy who normally likes slow atmospheric horror and creepy movies set in the woods.More surveying schools should have a focus on what to do when the land You’re working on is actually cursed fairy land.I thought the setting of a forest in Ireland would be enough to get me through this, no matter what the pace. The staleness of the plot and characters overpowered any sort of enjoyment I could get out of the setting. The locals have stories about the woods that are without name and the "effect" they had on a previous resident of the village. But with the exception of a few minor scenes, this adds nothing new at all to the oft told tale. The Quay Brothers shorts are listed individually and alphabetized as "The Quay Brothers".Without Name never lets you forget you’re watching a film - everything feels forced and artificial. The narrative spends a lot of time going nowhere, and here we see another film that thinks an elongated strobe light sequence is a suitable ending. Whether it be the characters, the atmosphere or the plot, there's got to be something to latch on to.Comparisons to non-narrative art forms shouldn’t imply that Without Name is without story. Quite frankly I'm as surprised as any of you that I'm still alive.I mean it’s not bad, but there’s definitely a sense where the director and writer watched A Field in England and thought they could do a riff on it pretty easily. Ultimately the core concept is unoriginal and, to some, a…Tell me if you see anything that should be added…Not to be watched while operating heavy machinery. So trust me when I say, WITHOUT NAME doesn't offer enough beyond the atmosphere. Is it the ephemeral degree to which the material disturbs you? Like certain poems. Happy I have another solid weird fiction style horror film I can cite. fucking! I don't think it's worth wasting your time with it.The great outdoors can be dangerous. Terminally dull up to the point where the Psilocybin kicks in (in the film, rather than than my bloodstream, I should add for clarity) then it does take it up a notch, with some interesting imagery. I thought the acting was fine, the actors just don't get to do enough. Shots don’t flow, atmosphere is built with music, script is clunky, characters are cardboard cutouts etc. This film has beautiful shots of lush verdant forests and plump, sprouting mushrooms. At first those shots are enchanting and entrancing, eventually they become tedious and obvious. Only the MPAA knows for sure... It had some cool shots but the ending kinda ruined it for me :/There are some gorgeous shots and moments of contemplation in this film which made me really want to love it.
