September 16, 2019 - SOLANO COUNTY OPENS ITS SECTION 8 WAITING LIST The Solano County Housing Authority is opening its Housing Choice Voucher Section 8 Program Waiting list starting Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. through Monday, September 23, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.
If you or any member of your household have a verifiable disability and you need a reasonable accommodation, you may request it in writing at any time. The accommodation must be for a person with a disability.Families will generally pay at least 30% of their monthly adjusted income toward rent, not to exceed 40% of monthly adjusted income in the first term of the lease. After the first year the landlord may initiate a new lease or allow the family to remain in the unit on a month-to-month lease.The PHA determines a payment standard that is the amount generally needed to rent a moderately-priced dwelling unit in the local housing market and that is used to calculate the amount of housing assistance a family will receive. Applications are then reviewed and funds awarded to the selected PHAs on a competitive basis. The PHA will verify this information with other local agencies, your employer and bank, and will use the information to determine program eligibility and the amount of the housing assistance payment.The housing choice voucher program is the federal government's major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market.
The housing voucher family must pay 30% of its monthly adjusted gross income for rent and utilities, and if the unit rent is greater than the payment standard the family is required to pay the additional amount. This is considered the basic range.
Families who qualify for any such local preferences move ahead of other families on the list who do not qualify for any preference.
The RFTA must be signed by both the owner and the voucher holder. A Lease obligates both the landlord and the tenant for a set period of time, usually one year.
