There are echoes of Ken Loach*-style social realism here as we meet a decent, ordinary family trying to make ends meet in the run-up to Christmas. Duration: 0:30. Each 30-minute episode is a self-contained story with new characters and a new setting, and all star at least one (usually both) of Pemberton and Shearsmith. It is written by Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton and produced by the BBC. We come to a bedroom door where a number 9 has been added by its owner in reference to the show. I love the big twists and horror-infused episodes as much as anyone, but I'm glad it's not all they do.At first wasn’t sure if I liked it but after listening to the pod and letting it sink in, this might be one of those eps you have to show new viewers. A personal story that still held tension and enough of a story if you dig/ pay attention enough, brilliant ep.I know a lot of people won't like it, it has no twist, it has no real purpose and its far more of a naturalistic, kitchen sink drama than the other episodes, however, for me, this is one of my faves already.Also, the grandson's actor was insanely goodThe key theme for me this episode is silence, the silence of opening the doors, the silence carefully used in key scenes such as when the son comes back in the flashback and the silence at the end when you realise there's no trademark twist.
